Each year, the city purchases billions of dollars worth of services each year, which is an exciting opportunity for business owners to increase their revenue and grow their business. From filling potholes to managing after-school programs, there are a variety of services in which your business could qualify.

There are currently three categories of contracts with the City: commodities, construction, and professional services. Commodities contracts with the city refer to the procurement of supplies, equipment and materials. Construction contracts cover nearly all aspects within the construction industry. Lastly, professional services refer to legal, medical, marketing, food and beverage, janitorial and consulting.

The City requires that every person engaged in business in the City of Los Angeles, even as a contractor, obtain a Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC) from the Office of Finance and pay the required tax. In addition, there are a number of free professional certifications available to help business become more competitive in the application process.

The Los Angeles Business Assistance Virtual Network (BAVN) is a free service provided by the City of Los Angeles that features all contract opportunities throughout the City. For more helpful information, view and download our Contractor's Handbook.
